DERMAL FILLERS
Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours. There are a variety of FDA approved filler products that are used include hyaluronic acid, poly-L-lactic acid, platelet rich plasma and calcium hydroxylapatite to fill the facial creases and folds.
Fillers can help:
Smooth out lines around nose and mouth (a.k.a. marionette lines, smile lines, and parentheses)
Enhance & restore volume to sunken cheeks
Plump & enhance the lips
Improve symmetry among facial features
After treatment, results appear immediately (after initial swelling dies down) and can last 8 - 12 months. Bruising and mild swelling may be present for a few days or weeks. Treatment time is usually 30-45min
Treatment Instructions:
Avoid alcohol consumption for a minimum of 24 hours prior to treatment. Alcohol can thin the blood making it easier for bruising to occur
Avoid any blood thinning agents for at least 1 week prior to treatment to minimize the occurrence of bruising.
Stop all NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications) such as aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Nuprin, Bufferin, Ibuprofen
Stop all herbal supplements such as fish oil, ginkgo, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, garlic pills'
If you have a history of cold sores, it is important to let your provider know. There is a risk that the treatment could lead to an outbreak, so your provider may want to treat you with Valtrex.
Tell your provider if you are on immunosuppressive therapy.
